Bernd Mützelburg is a retired German ambassador with a career spanning senior diplomatic and national-security posts over three decades. He served as Germany's Ambassador to India, Estonia, and Kenya, and as the country's first Special Envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan.

At the heart of government, he headed the Foreign and Security Affairs division of the Federal Chancellery and served in the Foreign Office during the years of German reunification. He is a founding figure of the German–Arab Gulf Dialogue on Security and Cooperation.

His career includes:

  • Ambassador of Germany to India (2006–2009)
  • First German Special Envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan (2009–2010)
  • Head of Foreign & Security Affairs, Federal Chancellery
  • Deputy Head of the Federal Foreign Minister's Office during German reunification
